Some companies are finally aiming at the female demographic with beautiful wearables

Many of us guys take for granted that smartwatches and wearables have mostly been designed for us over the past few years. Manufacturers finally have put the focus on women in 2016 for wearables, and the expert opinion from the women friends I have is very positive. During and after CES 2016, I was texting images to them, who are fashionable people mind you (they are the type who carry Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Prada and the like. For the past couple of years smartwatches and wearables have always looked the part and is one of the reasons why they have taken off so slowly. With a couple of years of engineering under their belts, companies are now starting to truly focus on design.

I am a tech nerd and would not trust my own fashion expertise, especially when trying to determine what women want from their wearables. But Huawei and Mira seemed to be the favorites amongst my friends.

Huawei and Honor

Huawei stole the attention from my friends the most with the Rose Gold Android Wear Watches with Swarovski crystals embedded in the bezel. Swarovski has been in the high-quality crystal business since 1895 and partnering with Huawei was a great decision for them. Huawei is already a name synonymous with the words high-quality and fashionable so who better than Swarovski?

Internally the new Huawei designed Android Wear watches are the same as the one that has been on sale.

Ony of my favorite features of the Huawei Watch is the incredible battery life. I have the Black Stainless Steel version and the battery easily lasts me two days on a single charge. Huawei also demonstrated the latest software update, due out in a few weeks, which activates the built-in speaker on the watch. It was loud enough for me to hear clearly on the CES floor.

Most importantly though, the latest watches from Huawei are gorgeous and are aimed at the female market.

Huawei Press Release

Huawei is also bringing the Honor Band Z1 to the U.S. this year and is a fitness tracker that isn’t so bulky or loaded with bloat. It’s mainly a fitness tracker and most importantly comes in at $ 79.

The Z1 comes with a 1-inch passive-matrix OLED touchscreen with a resolution of 128×128 pixels. This is a perfect alternative to some of the higher priced fitness trackers and it looks great.

Mira debuted last year with its gorgeous fitness bracelet and is now expanding with new bracelets that don’t even look like fitness trackers. Mira is a Chicago based company and designs wearables by women, for women. They truly understand better than most that you don’t have to sacrifice beauty for fitness. The new Mira Vivid Bracelet will come in Rose All Day and Heart of Gold colors.

Mira also introduced the Vivid Wellness smart pendant and is slated to arrive in 2016 as well.

Mira is redefining the wearables category by taking design cues from the fine jewelry world, adding innovative tech and moving away from the sea of black, rubber sameness that has permeated the market. Their current collection features the Mira bracelet ($ 169), available in five finishes (Heart of Gold, Hot Chocolate, Rosé All Day, Jetsetter and Polished Rosé All Day) and pairs with the custom mobile app for both iOS and Android.

I didn’t test this product out but was impressed nonetheless. At CES the ultimate bra was shown off where it can track real-time biometrics and deliver the results straight to your phone. The Ombra is slated to arrive in spring 2016 and you can learn more here.

It’s about time manufacturers started focusing solely on women first. They make up over 50% of the population in the U.S. and are equally important to driving advances in technology too. Look out for the latest products from Huawei, Mira and Ombra – they are all set to arrive in the first half of 2016 and I hope to have some reviews for you.
